Armagh: Northern Ireland - Bramley's and More!

A visit to 'Apple County' gives an opportunity to tell the story of the Bramley's Seedling and explore the wider cider scene

A flying visit to participate in the sensational Armagh Food and Cider Weekend afforded me the opportunity to get into an orchard of Bramley’s Seedlings. This is not surprising given that there are several thousands of acres of them in the County of Armagh and that they are the proud owners of PGI status.

But do you know the full story of the Bramley? Well it all starts in Nottinghamshire, England, in 1809 with a young girl called Mary Ann Brailsford….

I give some insights into some of the other apples grown in the region and what kind of ciders are being produced.
