Crikey! The last time I posted (not from a beautifully warm and luscious Zimbabwe) from a UK location was decidedly grim, wet and wintry. What a difference several moon orbits of Earth can make, to the weather, eh? After having two of the wettest years on record and pretty much non-existent summers, we’ve been greeted by an incredibly dry and bright spring. And remarkably there is already been talk of a drought!
Britain in May when the sun is shining is really one of the great sensorial experiences - wildflowers are proudly thrusting from the ground, blossom is gorgeously draped and the song birds are doing their best Mariah Carey impression. But there is another bird whose call is considerably more simple, but exceedingly recognisable, which heralds the height of spring and has some cider connotations,
